Course Content

This course will provide particular guidance for engineers involved in the design of building projects that contain performance-based building solutions. The seminar will cover topics including a background to performance-based codes, how these codes differ to prescriptive codes and how to recognise when a performance-based solution is being proposed.

This course will also discuss the role of Australian Standards in the design process, the assessment method rules that must be followed and what evidence must be provided as part of the performance-based building solution.

This course is a must for building industry professionals who are involved in the design, specification and certification of all types of building projects to better understand the rules and their obligations under the performance- based NCC.

Course Outline

This course is in three parts and cover:

  • Understanding the Performance-based NCC – The structure of the NCC; The role of Australian Standards; Identifying when a building solution is performance-based
  • Engineer obligations under the Performance-based NCC – Development of a Performance-based design brief; Identification of the mandatory assessment methods; Understanding the Evidence of Suitability rules; Putting it all together
  • Q&A – Answering questions posted from sessions 1 and 2
